MŰTÁRGY- ÉS MŰEMLÉKVÉDELEM - Millei Ilona: Helyreállított régies típusú bosnyák főkötők

Helyreállított régies típusú bosnyák főkötők 333 Restored archaic Bosnian headdress Ilona Millei The restorer's study presents 5 archaic Bosnian pieces of headdress from the textile artefacts collected by the Zsolnay sisters in the 1870s, now preserved in the collection of Janus Pannonius Museum. These characteristic, colourful wool embroideries can be seen in the exhibition opened in 2012 presenting about the Zsolnay family and manufacture, in what used to be the Zsolnay Factory. These exquisite pieces of head wear were created in a great variety of forms, applying archaic patterns of the ancient homeland, of either dyed or plain linen. Before the time of commercial dyes, staining was done on wool fabric, using vegetable dyes, and decoration was done with metallic and cotton threads. After the second half of the 19th century, as synthetic dyes became available, vividly coloured headdresses were created. The typical embroidery patterns include stylised rosettes, pomegranates, tulips, leaves and small flowers, geometric shapes, and sometimes crests. Cleaning, conservation and restoration: the degree of contamination and incompleteness was different among the objects. Each of them meant an individual restoration challenge. Restoration was performed so that it complied with all the ethical standards; the embroidery with the worst condition and highest degree of deficiencies, requiring the greatest amount of time was one with tulip-motifs, somewhat differing from the other pieces in its structure.
