312 A Janus Pannonius Múzeum Évkönyve (2015) From the history of architecture to building energetics. The reconstruction of the former County Hall in 5 Papnövelde Street Pécs, and its development into the Modern Hungarian Gallery museum István Kistelegdi - J. István Kistelegdi: Jr Like a true milestone, the multifunctional building of the Modem Hungarian Gallery provides facilities for the preservation, storage, exhibition as well as historic and fine arts research of Hungarian and international works of art. In addition to performing the restoration works, a modern extension of the former building was also carried out, thus creating a new focal point in the form of a visitor centre of the museum street in the arts quarter of the historic downtown area. The solution that placed the protected monument into a glass capsule transforms the building itself into an organic part of the exhibition, with its steel-glass structural formation. The composition of baroque, eclectic and glass- covered high-tech building sections conveys the symbiotic fusion of the 21st century and our historic heritage both in the interior and exterior appearance of the building and its technical content. Besides creating optimal illumination by the glass house, the building also applies passive-hybrid energy efficient surface heating and cooling systems in its building technology, to comply with sustainability principles.
