14. kép: Részlet a régészeti állandó kiállításból A kiállításhoz kapcsolódó vezető 1973-ban került az érdeklődők kezébe. (A megnyitáskor szakmai és kiállításrendezési szempontból is korszerűnek számító kiállítás még ma is áll. Újrarendezése, átalakítása az intézmény elsőrangú feladatai közé tartozik!) A belső szakmai munka előtérbe kerülése figyelhető meg a következő években is. 1971-ben 29 megkezdődött a néprajzi restaurátor műhely építése a fenntartó megyei tanács 200.000 Ft-os támogatásával, amelyhez ugyancsak 200.000 Ft érkezett a Művelődésügyi Minisztériumtól gépek, restaurátor és laboratóriumi eszközök vásárlására. Mindezek ellenére "Az anyagmegóvás területén gondot okozott a restaurátorkapacitás elégtelen volta. Gondokkal küzd múzeumi szervezetünk a raktározás területén is, ahol bővítésre, újabb területekre volna szükség.'" Az 1970-es években a múzeum költségvetési helyzete jelentősen változott, ami pozitív kihatással volt a szakmai munkára is. 1972-73-ban jelentős gyűjteménygyarapodás, raktárrendezés történt szinte minden szakterületen és a kiállításokhoz kapcsolódó katalógusok is nagy számban jelentek meg. (1972-ben 7 katalógus!) 1972-ben, a pécsi múzeum névadója, Janus Pannonius halálának 500. évfordulójára három kiállítás is készült: Janus Pannonius és kora, Negyven rajz Janus Pannoniusról Martyn Ferenc rajzai, valamint megnyílt a Archaeological Relics" competition announced by the Archaeological Section produced material from 20 applicants accompanied by 100 valuable mapped provenances.
