A gyűjtemény nagy részét a pécsi gyáralapító Zsolnay Vilmos két lánya, Júlia és Terézia gyűjtötte össze a 19. század utolsó évtizedeiben. Textilgyűjteményünkben 20.701 tárgyat tartunk nyilván, ebből a Zsolnay nővérek gyűjtése 10.346. A teljes textilgyűjtemény több mint a felét horvát falvakban gyűjtötték. Nevezett két nővér igen gazdag néprajzi gyűjtőtevékenységet folytatott a Felvidéktől az Adriáig és Burgenlandtól Erdélyig. Gyűjteményük nagy részét a textília képezte. Gyűjtésük elsődleges célja az volt, hogy a textíliákon fellelhető motívumokat későbbi munkájuk során beleálmodják a Zsolnay kerámiák mintavilágába. Az államosítás után a gyűjtemény jelentős részét a pécsi múzeum különböző osztályai kapták meg. így értelemszerűen a népi textíliák a Néprajzi Osztály leltárába kerültek. Az elmúlt évek során ezt a gazdag textilgyűjteményt számos időszaki és állandó kiállításon mutattuk be hazánkban és külföldön. The institute's textile collection is especially valuable and exceptionally old. The greater part of the collection was collected in the closing decades of the 19

th century by Júlia and Terézia Zsolnay, the two daughters of the Pécs factory founder Vilmos Zsolnay. Our collection of textiles comprises 20701 items, out of which 10346 were collected by the Zsolnay sisters. More than half of the entire textile collection was collected from Croatian villages. The above-mentioned two sisters carried out very intensive ethnographical collecting trips, from Upper Hungary to the Adriatic and from Burgenland to Transylvania. The better part of their collection was composed of textiles. The primary aim of their collecting work was to mould the motifs they found on pieces of textile into the pattern world of Zsolnay porcelain. After nationalisation, a significant portion of the collection entered the various sections of the Pécs Museum. It was therefore self-evident that the folk textiles entrered the inventory of the Ethnographic Section. Over the past years this rich collection of textiles has been exhibited at numerous temporary and permanent exhibitions, both in Hungary and abroad. Bekecs (képtár) Ltsz:77.8.1.
