Régészet - Gábor Olivér: 5. századi sírok Kővágószőlős határában

GABOR О.: 5. SZÄZADI SÍROK KÓVÁGÓSZÓLŐS HATÁRÁBAN 137 Fifth century Cemetery from Kővágószőlős (County Baranya, South Hungary) Olivér GÁBOR In 1974 a rescue excavation by Valéria Ко váts unearthed seven graves, disturbed by machines. The east-west orientated graves were situated in a north-south line. They had different rituals: the graves were made of soil, brick and stone. The building of the graves followed a Roman tradition, but the linear organisation showed a new phenomenon. It is probably a small, family or manor house cemetery, but it is possible that only a part of it was unearthed and some graves are still unexcavated. The grave goods show an international wear. According to the mirror and the polyeder earrings the burials can be classified as a Szabadbattyán type cemetery. The fibulae are the most important finds for dating. The Bakodpuszta type 3, spike engraved and the small laminated silver fibulae are both among the grave goods. These date the cemetery to the Ostrogoth period (456473). It is also characteristic to this age that the rich graves are of women. At the Kővagoszólős cemetery grave 1 and 6 contained female skeletons with silver fibulae. From the historical Baranya County the finds from Croatia and Pelmonostor can be associated with this short Ostrogoth period. Between 456 and 473 the Ostrogoth Vidimer ruled the territory east of the river Dráva, and from here they moved to Gallia through the Italian peninsula in 473. The cemetery of a manor house of the territory ruled by Vidimer was found at Kővagoszólős. A szerző címe — Author's address: GÁBOR Olivér H-7601 Pécs, Р. О. Box 158.
