Adatok a Dél-Dunántúl nagylepkefaunájához In the Zselic Downs the examination of the butterflies and moths started after the First World War, when the Pazsiczky family moved to Kaposvár from Upper Hungary. Sándor Pazsiczky was not only excellent collector and entomologist, but he could pass his knownledge to his students. His best known student was Miklós Nattán, whos very large and excellent collection was purchased by Jauns Pannonius Museum, Pécs, after his died (GOZMÁNY 1971, ÁBRAHÁM 1990). Further four amateurs had some Lepidoptera material from the Zselic Downs, mostly from the region of Kaposvár. Bulk of their collections have been deteriorated. Numerous lepidopterous data were published from Kaposvár and environs by KOVÁCS (1953, 1956), based on the Nattán's collection. All locality data of this collection was published by ÁBRAHÁM (1990). In the seventies and eighties very intensive searching was carried out by Ákos Uherkovich. Due to the new methods - light traps fitted by mercury vapour bulbs, night collectings by same type of lamps - rather huge materials were captured all over the region. The results were published in a set of papers (UHERKOVICH 1981b, 1981c, 1982, 1983). Results of further collections have not been published yet. This new set of papers summerizes the earlier results were got in the previous seventy years in the Zselic Dows. This first part présentes the geogoly, climatology and vegetation briefly, and, enumetares all species have been collected ever, and their localities. The next parts will deal with the ecology, the zoogeographical situation and natural protection of Lepidoptera fauna of the region.
