Természettudományok - Nógrádi, Sára–Uherkovich, Ákos: Preliminary report on the Trichoptera fauna of the Chechen-Ingoosh ASSR, Soviet Union

PRELIMINARY REPORT ON THE TRICHOPTERA FAUNA OF THE CHECHEN-INGOOSH ASSR, SOVIET UNION.* Sára U. NÓGRÁDI—Ákos UHERKOVICH Abstract. 503 male and 1848 female specimens of 40 species were collected by the members of two expeditions in 11 localities of the republic. Four species proved to be new for the fauna of Caucasus. The unknownfemale ofGlossosoma unguiculatum Martynov is depicted. Introduction Between the Grozniy State University (ChechenIngoosh Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic) and Plant Sanitary and Soil Protection Station of County Komárom (Tata, Hungary) an agreement has been concluded at the beginning of the year 1988 to interchange researchers and to do joined scientific investigations. In this framework expeditions of five-six participants travelled to the Republic in 1988 and 1989 respectively. They collected huge insect materials counting several thousand specimens at many sites of the Republic, and researchers came to know the investigations and activities of the University, mostly the Biological Faculty. The members of the first expedition were Dr. Béla Herczig, Dr. Zoltán Mészáros, Dr. Kálmán Szeőke, Mr. Antal Sárközi, Mr. István Oláh and Mrs. Esbeta Hódi in 1988. In 1989 besides Dr. В. Herczig, Mr. György Szollát, Mr. A. Sárközi and Mr. András Horváth the co-author of this paper, Dr. Ákos Uherkovich also took a part in the field works. The main aim of investigations was to study the insect fauna of the Republic. First of all some lepidopterological themes were planned to elaborate, thus the field work was organized in view of this plans. We are indebted to be participants of the first expedition for the collecting of other insect groups: e. g. several specimens and species of Neuroptera and Trichoptera have been collected. During these two years more than 2300 caddisfly adults were taken belonging to at least 40 species. Localities of collections, methods Eleven localities were visited for collecting work. Two sites situated on the north-eastern part of the Republic, on the Caspian Lowland. Here a large, semidesert area lies. The others were in the higher parts of * Results of Chechen-Ingoosh —Hungarian Zoological Expeditions, №2. the Caucasus , in the southern part of the Republic (Fig. 1). Nearby Voskresenkoye, at the Budari Hunters' Center we collected, and observed nature. A shallow, 1,5...2 m deep lake lies among semi-desert areas. The lake was surrounded with reeds. To and from the lake channels run. Among the sand mounds some small, shallow, temporary pools can be found. The water of these lakes and pools seems non-polluted. In this region 76 males and 334 females of 17 species were captured by lamp and portable light trap during June 26—29,1989. In the vicinity of Starogladovskaya, along the gallery forest of Terek river 115 caddisflies were collected on 30th June, 1989. The river runs slowly and its seemed to be rather polluted. Only a poor material was taken in spite of the optimel circumstances. At Harachoy the first expedition collected some species on Aug. 14,1988. Several rivers and streams were in the valleys. The collection was carried out south-east from the village. Kezenoy-am is a deep, mountain-lake formed by landslides decades ago. It is situated on 1700 m a. s. 1. Only poor vegetation lived in the lake. In this vicinity very few brooks and streans can be found. Only two species were collected by lamp on July 3—4,1989. In the region of Itum-Kale and Kerigo, along the Argun river the first expedition collected more than 200 specimens of relatively many species during August 9—11,1988. The environs of Torgim was visited both by the first and the second expedition (August 4—7, 1988 and July 10, 1989, respecüvelly). The most caddisflies were collected here, e.g. on7th August. 1988.905 specimens wele captused on lamp south from Torgim. Similarly both expeditions went to the Shkolniy pereval (pereval =pass), its other name is „Pionersky pereval". Its height is 2000 m a. s. 1., only few Trichoptera were taken here. Nearby village Olgeti, at the ruins of the medieval Ingoosh town Erzi, we collected several times between July 7 and 11,1989, along the Armhi river. The material was not large but various. At Furtoug, on a cliff towering above its surroundings, both expeditions had a fruitful night capturing (Aug.3, 1988 and July 12,1989). The collection of the year 1989 was particularly successful.
