Dimensions: N-S = 800 cm E-W - 600 cm Radius of the apse : 300 cm Walls: W-S-E = Wl/60 cm N = W3l/60cm POINTS OF REFERENCE: 29 = 187,90 (in the apse, top of bricks) 30 = 187,87 (demolished upper part of wall Wl, E side) 140 = 188,45 (in the apse, top of hypocaust pillar from 1 + 5 bricks) 143 = 187,20 (foundation of wall Wl, outer ground level) The massive stonework Wl was at the same time the E outer wall of the villa. It was erected simultaneously with walls W2—W4 (for details cf. the passages on the portico spreading westwards). Wall Wl in room F was completely demolished (Figs. 21 — 24). Analogies of the ornamental floor-tiles the fragments of which were discovered built into the top of the wall gently curving towards room D are known to have been found in various rooms (Catal. XV.). Section p - D': room F wall was found demolished (at the W end of rooms C-D, 370 cm) as far as level 187,87 (Figs. 3, 10, 2022). The 420 cm long wall W31, stretching from the E corner towards the W, marked the N end of room F. The deposit of the ruins there had prevented the fixing of a presumed entrance (alongside wall Wl). The lowest level of room F was completely covered with an accurately elaborated underground central heating system. The hypocaust pillars were constructed of bricks: the 18X18X7 cm bricks were put on the 41X 30X7 cm base bricks, and the 25X24X7 cm bricks on the 44X25X7 cm ones. The „suspended floor" rested upon these pillars — a 10 cm thick block of this terrazzo flooring was found „in situ" in a tilted position (Fig. 15). The uncovering of the hypocaust system was preceded by the removal of an excessive quantity of burnt calcic debris, brick and wooden remnants. The section in Fig. 11. shows the foundation of wall Wl, unearthed at its S curve (cf. also Fig. 12, (= 187,20). COINS in room F: No 31. Block III, W half, 0-40 cm, No 32.
