326 ZS. CSALOG— L. MÁNDOKI Graph 5. the comparison stand here the graphs of the three villages at disposal. The proportion of the bearer of more Christian names increased as much as 50% among the Calvinists of Siklós during the last 120 years; this mode of naming was more frequent in the beginning among the men, afterwards at the women. Among the Catholics of Siklós (also in a period of 120 years) this practice stands on a relative equal level, the custom however is much more earlier. At the opening of the Catholic register of births it was already a living custom in 1722, it appears at the Calvinist only in 1842. (the graph however rises abruptly). The same situation is shown by the compilation made on the basis of the Catholic register of births from Bicsérd. The graph of the development of name inheritance is very instructive, it presents well that in the beginning it was customary to give the child the name of parents only at the men among the Calvinist of Siklós, in the case of the women the low percentages indicate an accidental coincidence. The later running up of the graph for the inheritance of the famele names may be connected with the fight for the emancipation too. (Graph 7.) Unfortunatelly our graph representing the inheritance of the name of god-parents is not worked out to the state of presentability, but also this and many other ethnolinguistical facts prove — to the expounding of which is this study not sufficient — that by the analysis of the Christian name fashions and customs of naming we are able to come to the revelation of such lowfulness, which exercises an influence on the other fields of researches of the folklore, their analysis and presentation however are more difficult and less exact. This present study was delivered as a lecture at the II. Onomatological Conference in Budapest (2—4. Sept. 1969). Hungarian it was publicated in the Nyelvtudományi Értekezések (Linguistic Dissertations) No. 70. (Budapest, 1970), pp. 145—152. WOMEN : MEN: WITH MOKE NAMES OUT OF THEM' WOMEN • MEN. Ш Graph 6.
