Summaries József Szentpéteri pp. 385-386 LORDS AND CHIEFS. SIGNIFICANT AVAR FINDS FROM THE KISKUNSÁG Professional opening I confidently declare that the next compulsory place of pilgrimage for all professional scholars from Hungary and abroad dealing with the Migration Period beside the interested public will be the newly opened exhibition of the Katona József Museum entitled 'Lords and Chiefs' in the future years, where the accurate and professionally displayed synopsis of the archaeological legacy of Carpathian Basin's Avar Period is displayed. When we visit the major exhibition halls of Budapest, Saint Petersburg, London, Paris and New York, we can be sure that the Hungarian National Museum, the Hermitage Museum, the British Museum, the Louvre but also the Metropolitan Museum of Arts would proudly present the striking archaeological finds of the Katona József Museum. Such outstanding assemblage is the grave of an Avar lord, buried secretly in the borderland of the today Homokhátság region, at Kunbábony in the late seventh century, with his insignia, weapon belts, jewelry, mounted weapons and funerary equipment.
