Cumania 27. Sándor Győri-Nagy pp. 369-374 "WHEAT - BREAD - LIFE" The route of wheat from the fields to the table in the Danube-Tisza Interfluve Region once... and today, or exhibition promoting the sustainable development" Professional opening The curvy track of the hallway in the museum chosen for the exhibition explicitly models that winding and narrowed route defined by political and economic necessities, on which the culture and civilization of bread passed from the ancient times till today. It was the narrowness of the space that inspired the curators to place all those elements — man and the various forms of activities with various tools —, which were driven out of the frontline of the exhibited material, and displayed behind the visitors' beck so that they can just turn to the photos of their predecessors in case they cannot understand the function of the objects presented. Most of the displayed objects from the past are original artifacts, the new tools are all models. The wheat-growers of the civilization are overgrown by the machines. Today man looks small beside his own machinery. The wheat-producer of our age is risen into such highness by the large engines that from the acclimatized cabin he neither feels the seed-ripening heat nor the powdering dust of the soil beneath the monstrous vehicle. From the discussion of the objects such inspiring thoughts were born at this exhibition. SIGNIFICANT AVAR FINDS FROM THE KISKUNSÁG Permanent archaeological exhibition The establishment of the first permanent exhibition of the Katona József Museum was supported by the ALFA-competition and the museum's own resources. The exhibition, which is equipped with several technical improvements, is located in a totally dark rectangular room with black walls and floor, the ceiling is decorated with small led-lights imitating the stars of the night sky. The posteriorly equipped, recessed glass cases present the most stunning Avar gold finds from the wider Kiskunság region. 1. The chieftains' graves from Petőfiszállás, Kiskunfélegyhá- za-Pákapuszta and Csanytelek (copy); 2-4. The Lord from Kunbábony and his legacy; 5. Swords from chieftains' graves (Kunbábony, 2nd grave, Kunpeszér, Kecel (copy); 6. The legacy of the Lord from Bocsa (copy); 7. The chieftains' (lords'?) swords from Nagykőrös and Kecskemét-Sal- lai utca; 8. Earrings from the Kiskunság, dating from the Early and Middle Avar Period; 9. The jewelry of a highborn girl from Kiskőrös (copy); 10. Earrings — the hair ornaments of men — pressed mounts from the Early and Middle Avar periods; 11. Gilt, cast bronze mounts — as they were found in situ and how they could look like. Few, side-like information blocks are helping the orientation of visitors. 398
