Cumania 27. György Sümegi pp. 279-282 AN ATTEMPT TO COMPREHEND A PHOTOGRAPH The photo on which fourteen men and one lady faces the camera, had been taken in the courtyard of the City Hall of Kecskemét, designed by Ödön Lechner and Gyula Pártos. As a result of the survey, including the analysis of numerous data, smaller details and iconographic characteristics, it was clarified that the picture had been taken on 2 November, 1902. Roland Horváth pp. 283-308 THE BUILDING HISTORY AND STYLISTIC CONNECTIONS OF THE MERCHANT TRADE BANK AND COMMUNAL BANK BUILDING (1909-1912) IN KECSKEMÉT The City of Kecskemét conducted a burst of building activity around the late nineteenth century, which still has a visible imprint on the architectural image of the inner city. The main Art Nouveau establishments at the main square had been discussed in several scholarly reviews in the recent years. However, all discussions ignored the monographic summary on the building of the Merchant Trade Bank and Communal Bank designed by Flóris Korb (1860-1930). The present survey attempts at revealing the most detailed architectural history of the building available, moreover presents the documented facts about the activity of Flóris Korb. The reasonably rich source material not only provided that, but above all, it allows drawing conclusions on the architectural challenges of the period and the general circumstances of larger building projects. Respecting the most recent investigations, it can be stated that the architectural design of the building shows affinity with Baroque mass formation, but otherwise follows the Classicist-oriented direction of the late Art Nouveau based on German archetypes. Concerning the construction of the facade, the architect was inspired by contemporary Austrian and German models. CULTURAL ECOLOGY Sándor Győri-Nagy pp. 307-320 THE KIS-SZIGET. CULTURAL ECOLOGICAL CLOSE-UP ABOUT AN ARCHAEOLOGICAL LANDSCAPE The Kis-Sziget [Small Island] is located in Csólyospálos, Bács-Kiskun County and part of the MÖF-EKI Tájbirtok [Hungarian Eco-Social Forum Landscape Asset], Its archaeological attraction is based on the fact that during the introductory phase of the new land management model various archaeological artifacts were found including flint stools, pottery shreds, and bone finds as well as different remains of building and land management practices, which in our understanding proved that the site had been continuously habited from the ancient times onwards. The sustainable development model of the Landscape Asset is based on the knowledge of the natural functioning of the sand ridge-marshy habitat of the Kiskunság region. Due to the artificial water drainage systems, the area lost one third of its landscape-fertility. In 2013 the 'Model Project for the Preservation of Marshlands' had been initiated with German financial support, which had included the Kis-Sziget area of the Landscape Asset as well. The fallow period ended in 2014 in the Kis-Sziget fields. From 2015 onwards we would like to include this territory into the gradu396
