Cumania 27. later appointed as District Judge. Between 1851 and 1854 he was the vice-captain of the Félegyháza District. As vice-captain he acquired practical observations about the landed properties and the local administration of the region, moreover, he studied the historical background of the legal system and the problems with applying new legislation at a local level. He also surveyed the special historical and societal relations of the Jassic-Cumans, their autonomy and jurisdictional traditions. While working in the District's assembly and judicial committees he could rely on his historical surveys, until 1872 he actively participated in the transformation of the Jassic-Cuman District's public administration. The essay focuses on the changes in the administration of the Jassic-Cuman District between 1847-1872, highlighting the process during which István Gyárfás, the notable historian of the Jassic-Cuman District surveyed and collected his essential information about the Jassic-Cumans. Borbála Fábián pp. 241-252 "ENROLLMENT SHEET FOR ELECTRICAL LIGHTING" FROM 1893 It was long process to replace electricity for paraffin lamps. Assessment of public demands always preceded the establishment of gas factories or power stations. However, such waiting sheets rarely survived. Among the 145 enrolled citizens the occupation of 98 people was defined, beside five firms (First Cognac Factory, Kecskemét Savings Bank, Central Savings Bank, Economic Steam Mill, Pest County Advertiser) and one association, the Kecskemét Casino. Among the firms, the economic mill noted that their premises 'will be wired in by ourselves', thus this application cannot be interpreted as a valid claim. Looking at the occupational groups, most of them are shopkeepers (together with the restaurant owners 42%), but the proportion of the tradesmen (25%) and the intellectuals (23%) are also high. After the groceries and general stores, physicians and solicitors are most frequently represented among the 53 different professions. Interestingly, there are five women among the enrolled public. At last, in 1893 the wishes of only one citizen, István Szappanos were accomplished, whose house was wired in by the Economic Steam Mill. Csaba Hajagos pp. 253-260 A SINCERE STATEMENT FROM ONE OF THE LEADERS OF THE NATIONAL CULTURAL FORUM - OR WHERE DID 'OPPOSITIONARY SENTIMENT' DID BEGIN IN HUNGARY IN 1985 The paper discusses the issues connected to the sudden shutting down of the Museum of Local History at Kiskunmajsa, which at that time was the only public education institution, funded by a local agricultural cooperative, and focuses on the role and denigration of Dr Huba Kozma, at that time head of the museum, as well as the thwarting situation between the County Museum Organization and the Bács-Kiskun County Committee of the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party. It aims at answering the question how the director of the museum could be appointed as controller of the threshing-machine in some days. The analysis of the archival material sheds light on the local political oppression and 'crisis management' five years before the end of Communism. Moreover, through the case study of the local history museum and Dr Huba Kozma, the essay presents how those intentions and persons were handled who represented national interests (Anthology exhibition, Book club) and were ranked as 'reactionary' by the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party. 394
