Fig. 28. The suggested reconstruction of the Izsák-Balázspuszta saddle our the upper palate, was only a side effect of a very bad impression the horse must have given with a foaming nozzle, a hanging out tongue, and most likely with an excitable temperament. On the bases of these characteristics Matolcsi says that the horse bore all outer marks of a shaman, „táltos" horse of our folk-tales. 38 This opinio is shared by Sándor Bökönyi who also calculated with the possibily of the placement of „táltos" horses into the observed Conquest Period graves. 39 Matolcsi however, even goes beyond the shamanism of the horse, he includes the roughly twenty year old man too with the background of the anthropological data provided by Antónia Marcsik. 40 It is true that the man buried here wears all physical characteristics of the shaman of the folklore with his hare-lip, cleft-palate, and tusklike molar and was considered member of the leading strata of the conquering Magyars. These physical irregularities could have caused difficulties in forming sounds too. According to medical opinion mental 28. kép. Az izsák-balázspusztai nyereg javasolt helyreállítása deficieny is not necessarily a companion, although Antónia Marcsik concludes to hydrocephaly from the relatively large volume of the skull. The burial of the physically faulty, more so the frightening looking man and horse together is definitely exceptional, and an unknown phenomenon until now. Special attention is indicated. Nevertheless it is debated whether the recently existing, perhaps still living, Asian shaman worship could be identified with the belief of the conquesting Magyars, or rather is it permissible to reflect a present day phenomenon a thousand years back without any further J.
