Fig. 4. The in situ lifted out saddle remains 4. kép. Az in situ kiemelt nyeregmaradványok could only be examined by archaeological, anthropological, and paleozoological methods concurrently and separately. For the anthropological and paleozoological examinations Antónia Marcsik and János MÍItolcsi were asked respectively. The further clearing up of the saddle was carried out in the museum cleaning of the bone plates layer by layer, photographing, and drawing (Plate 6). On the top there was a curved line of plates, originally of more pieces, with decoration on the top: having a continuous vine decoration with opposite leaf bunches with four and four embossed dots at the intersections, tapered to their ends (Plate 3, fig. 6). The tips of the plates were fastened to the wood by iron nails. A few pieces of it were strewn on the groundloosened by the finders, thus moved while being transported, but the sketch and photograph taken on the spot prove their continuous placement. (In the course of reconstruction these proved to be the outside bordering plates of the rear pommel which wasdecorated by a double bone plate line.) About 6—8 cm deeper there were two "S" curved bone plates whith tapered ends at their joint in the middle part of the pommel, only its traced reverse showing (Plate 7, fig. 4). The ends were fastened to the joint of the pommel and the saddle-tree by iron nails. After taking them down it became clear that the decoration was different from the previous one, Fig. 5.
