The identity-shaping effect of the institution of a mixed marriage - examples from Kanjiza in Serbia

In this paper the author investigates the mixed marriages of a small town in the Northern Bácska Region. The 80% of the settlement (Kanjiza, Serbia) is inhabitaed by Hungarians who have made mixed marriages with other nationalities (Serbian, Croatian, Montenegrin and others) of the settlement from the second half of the 20th century.

The study examines the elements of the spouses’ identity constructions. The study focuses on the fields of language use, habits, and education.
