Debrecen Hanga Gebauer The Man behind the Camera The Photographs of Ede Solymos in the Archives of the Museum of Ethnography The huge amount of photographs taken by Ede Solymos during his colourful and divers professional life have not been preserved only at the town museum in Baja but also at other institutes such as the Museum of Ethnography in Budapest where he did internship during his university studies between 1948 and 1950. In the Ethnological Archive of the museum one can find more than 2700 pages of manuscripts, around 250 drawings, 600 photographs, as well as maps and three films that partially or completely were created by him. From these documents an inquisitive and broadminded researcher can be detect. Although he is mainly known about his researches on fishery he has also taken photographs of about 15 different topics and even more subtopics. These pictures can be analysed by themselves and viewed as a visual diary or notes of his fieldworks that give an overview of the methods and characteristics of Ede Solymos’ work and personality.
