of spiritual power (Némejcová-Pavúková 1998, 40). In the inner area of some rondels a large building was located (Fig. 3:2; Bucany, Zlkovce). There is a possibility that this building could have a cultic meaning - a temple - in a cult area which is marked by a ditch and palisade (or only palisade). A spiritual leader could have resided here (Pavúk — Karlovsky 2004, 261; 2008, 497). Reasons for the emergence of rondels At the end of the 5th millennium BC the man tried to solve an economic crisis, which was caused by infavourable climate (Gronenborn 2009, 100; Karlovsky — Pavúk 2002,120), by several interrelated measures. Probably as a result of incoming dry period during the final stage of Zeliezovce group of the Middle Neolithic period in western Slovakia inhabitants left not only individual settlements, but also the entire settlement areas, which were located on chernozem (black earth). They moved either to the proximity of inundations in lowlands or to a higher situated areas (covered with today's brown earth) closer to the mountains with frequent rainfall. Because of the drought both banks of the river Danube between Budapest and Vienna were during the Lengyel culture uninhabited (Karlovsky — Pavúk 2002, 120; Pavúk 1982, 45-48; 1990,66; 1991, 354-Emberalakú szobrocskák töredékei, (1) Bratislava-Záhorská Bystrica és (2) Bratislava (Farkas 2012, obr. 81, 88 után). Fragments of anthropomorphic figurines from (1) Bratislava- Záhorská Bystrica and (2) Bratislava (after Farkas 2012, obr. 81, 88). 356; 1994, 26-23; Pavúk — Karlovsky 2004, 259; 2008, 486; Pavúk — Veliacik — Romsauer 1995,117-120). The emergence of large settlements with a high number of houses and their inhabitants during the Lengyel and Tisza cultures can be seen as an application of economic and social measures aimed at the resolution of crisis due to unfavourable climate (Pavúk — Karlovsky 2004, 259; Tóth — Demján — Griacová 2011, 311). High proportion of wild game on settlements (up to 65%) could substitute the lack of vegetable proteins in nutrition (Ambros 1986,13). 81 21.
