Katona István: A kalocsai érseki egyház története II. (Kalocsa, 2003)

Katona with certain mistakes. Commentaries written by Thoroczkay and Tóth shortly represent also the biography of each archbishop summarising the results of special works written since 1800. Complemented with these commentaries the two-volume work became the modern analysis of the history of the Kalocsa Archbishopric until 1800. The foreword starting volume I (I-XXX) was written by Gábor Thoroczkay. Here we can learn about István Katona's life and work. We also can read a short overview of the special literature on the history of the Kalocsa Archbishopric until 1800. In the second part of the study the author deals with still highly controversial questions of the Hungarian Medieval research: the date of the foundation of the Kalocsa archdiocese, the date of its becoming archbishopric, the first prelate and the problem of the second episcopal seat of the archbishopric founded in the end of the 11 th century in Bács (today Ваб, Serbia). Summarising the earlier research, the author of the foreword puts the foundation of the diocese around 1002, considers As(e)rik-Anastas to be his first prelate and dates the transformation of the bishopric into archbishopric before 1010. Following Gyula Kristó he dates the foundation of the second seat of the archbishopric in Bács to the second half of the 1080s. The foreword is concluded with the history of the translation, editing work of Katona's book and with the representation of the aspects of the notes.
