PRESS AND MEDIA ARCHIVES - The Archives of the Hungarian Radio by István Salamon
Press Archives Since 1952 it has supported the employees of the Radio company with information published in written media and which is needed for the daily work. Traditional filing system and an increasing computer catalogue help in finding the way among national and foreign articles. Because of the thematic classification of the article collection it is more and more popular even among outer inquirers. Library The library of the Radio Company was established in 1947 with 2000 volumes. Now it has 108 000 volumes the value of which is about 90 million HUE Primary it works as an institutional special library. It can be used only by the employees of the Radio Company or people with special admission. But it also considers its task to help scientific research and qualify students of media. Its collection area is parallel to the specialities of making programmes. There can be found the basic cyclopedias and vocabularies, linguistic and literary manuals, geographical and historical works, literature of religion and mythology and manuals of music and media. Its speciality and unique value is its poem collection in which the whole publication of different poets, thematic set-ups, anthologies of different countries and nationalities can be found. Readers can use the usual leaflets, catalogues and computer databases. Archives It fulfils double tasks: As an institution it collects, classifies, sorts out and keeps the documents of the Radio Company that are older than five years. It collects, classifies and makes finding aids for the documents relating to the history of the Radio Company. It looks for and registers the documents of other public collections that relate to the Radio Company. The collection first of all fulfils the requirements of the employees of the Radio Company but there is possibility for private people with special admission for research. The material is 700 linear metres, its written material is continuous from 1925 but is fragmented from this year before. The Archives collects separately the written bequests of significant radio people and their radio memories. Radio Museum Technical, mechanical equipment of the radio changes quickly and continuously by its nature. The management of the Radio Company decided already in 1942 to collect the old technical equipment, documents and the things in connection with them like sound, written and photo material. The war stopped carrying out this vast project. The old things of the radio service were exhibited just on temporary exhibitions even after 1945. The
