THE ARCHIVES OF SCIENTIFIC INSTITUTIONS - Open Society Archives by Iván Székely
Library The Archives have its own library. Its holdings include the RFE/RL collection of periodicals and books and periodicals on the history culture and politics of the region in more than thirty languages. A part of the collection of periodicals, which represents about 6 000 titles, can be found on 53 000 microfilm rolls and on microfiche. Among the most significant special collections the socalled Wiener Library, documenting the history of the Nazi movement and European Jewry from the 1930s to 1960, the Polish Independent Publications, the Prague Spring of 1968 and Archival and Information Science Publications are to be noted. Research in the Archives OSA is open to the general public; research in the Archives is free. The working language of the institution is English, but there are employees who can speak Hungarian or other languages of the region. Reference services are available for both on-site and off-site researchers, including the making and sending of copies of documents. OSA publishes Reference Information Papers (RIP) listing the materials of the Archives by topics. The Archives regularly offer research grants for researchers who do not live in Budapest. In addition, professional Hungarian archivists are eligible to apply for two weeks of professional training and field work.
