BY MÁRIA VIDA SEMMELWEIS MEDICAL HISTORY PROFESSIONAL ARCHIVES T The Semmelweis Medical History Archives was formed as a an extension of Semmelweis Medical History Museum and Library in 1972. Financially it was supported by the Ministry of People's Welfare, while its professional supervision was fulfilled by the Ministry of Culture and Public Education. The number of the employees is 2 (part-time) the quantity of the documents is 600 linear metres. The most important documents are those of the Royal Doctors' Association of Budapest, 1873-1943. The documents of the Doctors' and Naturalists' Itinerary Congress is very significant from the point of view of modern science and the history of civilization, 1841­1912. The third important collection of the association fond group is a collection of modern material, the documents of MOTESZ. The Association of the Hungarian Doctors' Societies and Leagues, 1966-1985. Among further important fond group of the institution is the collection of Personal document bequests, which contains the documents of 123 doctors and doctor-politician active in the area of medical sciences and pharmacy. The documents of famous doctors are Béla Entz, Antal Genersich, Imre Haynal, Vilma Hugonnai, Béla Johan, Frigyes Korányi, Sándor Korányi, Eajos Markusovszky and Vilmos Tauffer or the doctor-historian Gyula Magyary-Kossa and Ferenc Kolos Mayer. We should mention that there are about 300 degrees of medical qualifications, of surgery, pharmacist and obstetric expert from the 18 th-20 th centuries, mixed provenance files of different original forms and numerous chemist's manuscripts from the 19 th- 20 th centuries, scientific journals, records and different correspondence in the Collection of Historical Documents of Semmelweis Medical History Museum. The fonds of the archives are ordered at a middle level. A Repertory was made for the fond of the Royal Doctors' Society and the Doctors' and Naturalists' Itinerary Congress.
