university archives. All of these do not influence the level of arrangement and research. We can state that so far fifteen university archives have been established in Hungary that hold all together 4,000 linear metres of historical material. And that these university archives have now been fully integrated into the Hungarian archives network. After the integration of higher education in the year of 2000 these archives are now owned to twelve universities. Therefore, it is an important task to adjust this new configuration. The Association, that became national recently, has endeavored to have the country scientific universities to join in the work of university archives but the results have not been seen yet. The new and unified city universities in Debrecen, Szeged and Pécs already plan to form professional archives but the personnel and material conditions are not in place yet. The general assembly of Hungarian University and College Archives Association declared that they would form into society So they formed the Hungarian Higher Education Archives Society and registered it officially as an independent archival professional organization. The Society represents themselves in common professional, special societies, committees and also helps the development of archival work within the framework of its own possibilities.
