and the documents of inner municipal and economic administration. The persecution at the end of the 17 th century influenced the history of archives. Most documents of the time and before were damaged or lost. Together with the life of the College the archives were renewed after 1703. Because of the increasing material it became necessary to classify on a certain kind of unified order. This work was done between 1716 and 1731 when the documents were classified into eight classes upon their types. The material was reorganized again in 1771 and then at the beginning of the 19 th century two professors, Sándor Kövy and István Porkoláb did this job. After this the year of 1890 brought important changes in the history of the archives. Benő Zsoldos a secondary grammar school teacher was in charge of the reorganization who established the highest quality archival order of the time with his twenty-two year long unselfish work. He called an archival collection into being. It includes 85 349 pieces of documents from 1157 to 1912. He made a chronological basic directory in accordance with the stock location about the documents signed by the case, drawer and current serial numbers. To make the research easier he also made some ten thousands slip indexes. The archives became collecting archives in 1951. At the same time a long line of 'movement for saving' a great quantity of documents of diocese and church district started and the documents were archived. The documents of the archives can be divided into five sections: l.The documents of the Calvinist Church district and its institutions west of the River Tisza 2.The documents of the Diocese of the Calvinist Parish west of the River of Tisza. 3.The documents of parishes of the Calvinist Church district west of the River Tisza. 4.Family archives and personal deposits. 5.Strange/ foreign documents. There are 380 fonds which are 471 linear metres.
