Zsoldos Attila: A gyűlések rendje The Agenda of the Assemblies An age-old statement of Hungarian historiography is that Charles I, King of Hungary (1301-1342), did not summon diets (congregatio regni generalis) from the early 1320s onwards because he could not stand such limitations to his power. Although it is a fact that we do not know of any assembly from the 1320s, it is documented that they were regularly held again in the 1330s. The assemblies were primarily urged by the Hungarian prelate in hope of gaining back the political influence they had had at the time of the last Árpáds. The study argues that Charles I, in connection with his efforts to gain the throne of Naples, restored the assemblies as favours to the Hungarian prelates, although without giving them any political importance.
