ZOLTÁN G ARADNAI THE DIPLOMATIC ARCHIVES OF THE MINISTRY FOR EUROPE AND FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF FRANCE AND THE SOURCES OF THE FRENCH–HUNGARIAN RELATIONSHIP The documents in the Archival Centre of the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs in Nantes are the primal sources for the researchers of the diplomatic history of France. They help us also to understand better how the picture of Hungary changed in the mind of French politicians and diplomats, the history of the French-Hungarian relationship, and in broader perspective the evolution of the relations between France and Central Europe. In our study we strive to present the Archival Centre in Nantes, the characteristics of the local sources and to provide a guide for anyone who wants to do archival research. Unfortunately, the archival materials in Nantes are relatively little known to Hungarian researchers, as the focus of their research is primarily on documents located in Paris. The author of this paper during his research trips in France spent altogether one month in Nantes on three occasions, thus he summarized his knowledge based on personal experience.
