KRISZTINA J UHÁSZ „...AND ITS FRUIT WAS NOTHING” Miklós Esterházy’s Opinion about the Points of the Peace Treaty of Szőny on 28 February 1642 The source publication provides a new addition to the history of the Habsburg-Ottoman peace treaty in 1642, also known as the second Peace Treaty of Szőny, by publishing a six-page, text written in Hungarian. The peace talks in Szőny started on 12 January 1642 with the participation of the Habsburg and Ottoman negotiators. At the end of February 1642, in the second, more intensive phase of negotiation, the delegates of the imperial party summarized the draft peace treaty for negotiation as nine points, what were sent to Miklós Esterházy, the Palatine of the Hungarian Kingdom, along with other documents. The published source is the Miklós Esterházy’s opinion (28 February 1642, Sempte), wherein he composes a detailed, clear opinion about the all nine points of the draft peace. This includes among other things the condition of the villages under Ottoman rule, the return of Vác, the situation of the prisoners, the religious matters and the duration of the peace, etc. Műhely 366
