Csaba Szabó Nordrhein-Westfalen State Archive (Duisburg) The Nordrhein-Westfalen State Archive (Archives in North Rhine-Westphalia) is the second largest archive in Germany after the German Federal Archives (Bundesarchiv). In 2014 the archival documents from Düsseldorf and Brühl were moved into the new centre in Duisburg. Lessons can be learned from the special care and attention given by the German archivists, and the patience and cooperation by the maintainer authorities in addressing specific professional issues and requests, during the migration process of more than 100 linear kilometres of archival documents. The new archive was constructed between 2010-2013 and it is probably one of the most modern buildings of its kind in Europe. The facility is fully compliant with the aims of a 21st-century archive: the records are kept under optimal conditions; archivists work in a pleasant and appropriate working environment; researchers’, customers’, visitors’, and school groups’, so all the users’ needs meet and satisfied with the archival services. 314
