Mérleg Zoltán Oszkár Szőts “Their Traces: Centuries - Personalities - Signatures” Exhibition of the National Archives of Hungary Cultural events, which convey the values of the archives to the public, are essential to maintain the attitude of an open, modern, and service based archive in the 21st century. The National Archives of Hungary has recognised this challenge and incorporated it into its mission statement. One example for the herein described principles is the large-scale exhibition of the National Archives of Hungary: „Their Traces: Centuries - Personalities - Signatures”, which opened on the 15th March 2016. The exhibition’s goal is to guide its visitors through the Hungarian history from the 14th to the end of the 20th century using the signatures of the most important historic figures as an ordering principle. The exhibition aims to show the process of signatures evolving into the primary means of authorisation. It gives a glimpse into the lesser known public and private life of significant personalities of Hungarian history. 308
