Műhely - Ungváry Krisztián: Karl Pfeffer-Wildenbruch, Budapest és a kitüntetések...

Műhely Krisztián Ungváry Karl Pfeffer-Wildenbruch, Budapest and medals of honor... With my study I aim to give a short biography of Karl Pfeffer-Wildenbruch, leader of the Budapest Garrison, by focusing on his activity in the Hungarian capital during the siege of Budapest. This is the first study that uses all available sources, including Russian memoirs of WWII and Russian interrogations after 1945. There are three topics I especially focus on. Firstly, the background of Pfeffer- Wildenbruch’s last medal of honor given for his activity during the battle of Budapest, secondly, his alleged attempts to rescue Hungarian Jews. Thirdly, his life as a prisoner of war, captured by the Soviet Army in Budapest. All the above mentioned subjects are debated both by historians and survivors as well. Therefore, I try to reconstruct the German General’s life and deeds in Budapest between December 1944 and February 1945. 270
