1956 - Levéltár és egyház a forradalomban mutatja, hogy bennük volt a hiba, ugye túltettek néha még Kádáron is” - utal az akkori debreceni református egyház állapotaira. Végül négyévi ingázás után 1963-ban került vissza nagy nehezen Debrecenbe. Ám ’56-osként, a városi forradalmi szerv egykori vezetőjeként a tanári munkáról nem is álmodhatott. A megyei könyvtárban kapott munkát, ahol egyik volt tanítványa lett a könyvtárvezető, s ő vette oda régi könyvek rendezésére. Itt dolgozott 1974. december 31-ig, azaz a nyugdíjazásáig. Rendőrségi felügyelet alatt tartották, útlevelet, telefont nem kaphatott.51 Életében újabb fordulatot a rendszerváltás időszaka hozott. 1988 decemberétől részt vett a Kisgazdapárt újjászervezésében,* 92 annak megyei elnökévé választották, majd az első szabad választ követően egy cikluson át, 1990-től 1994-ig az FKGP debreceni képviselőjeként ténykedett a parlamentben.93 Zoltán Völgyesi The carrier and 1956 activity of Dr. Béla Kovács archivist Dr. Béla Kovács (1914-2007) archivist, politician of Smallholders Party (FKgP), an important figure of ‘56 revolution in Debrecen had Transylvanian origins, and his father was pastor of Reformed Church. Kovács graduated from history, geography and art history at the University of Debrecen. Then, he worked one year long in the National Archives of Hungary, and later became the leader of the Szilágy county archives. During the siege of Budapest, he served the National Archives again. In the spring of 1945 he moved to Debrecen. As a teacher and deputy director of a secondary grammar school, he was member of the national committee of FKgP and its presidency in Debrecen. In 1948, he was imprisoned for one year, after that he worked as an archivist at the Reformed College of Debrecen. In 1956, Kovács was member of the three-person presidency of the municipal revolutionary committee. In April 1958, he was sentenced to 2 years in prison for his ’56 activity. He was freed in April 1959 with amnesty. He got a church archival job in Kecskemét, but he could only move back to Debrecen in 1963. He worked at the county library until his retirement in 1974. In the late 1980s, he was involved in the re-organization process of the Smallholders Party. Between 1990 and 1994 he was parliamentarian of the FKGP.
