tályt, természetesen ügyelnek reá, hogy kifelé parancsnokként a magyar Földi ezredes szerepeljen. Földi sosem volt hivatásos katona, 1944-ben munkaszolgálatos volt Oroszországban, átszökött az oroszokhoz. Hazatérve a Kommunista Párt jóvoltából kapta bizalmi állását és Pálffy előlépéséig mint annak helyettese működött a katona politikai osztálynál.

Pálffy vezérezredes hatalma nagyobb, mint Tildy köztársasági elnöké és Dinnyés miniszterelnöké együttvéve. Ura életnekhalálnak, alig 40 esztendős, szédületes karrierje szemlélői tanácstalanul kérdik, hogy hová ívelhet még pályája. Mellesleg ő volt a határőr alakulatok főparancsnoka is, s csak néhány napja vette át a honvédség főfelügyelői tisztét.

Ebben az állásában Kuthy László vezérezredes volt az elődje. Kuthy, akit legutóbb honvédelmi államtitkárnak neveztek ki, Horthyt is hűen szolgálta. Mint vezérkari ezredes 1944 október 15-ig, a magyarországi nyilas puccsig vezette a vezérkari főnökség orosz szempontból is fontos Államvédelmi Osztályát. A németeknél és magyar csatlósaiknál fekete listára került, nyilván ennek köszönhette elsősorban, hogy átmenthette magát mai magas állásába. Néhány nappal ezelőtt lett a Honvédelmi Minisztérium első államtitkára. Egyébként ő a jelenlegi vezetők között a legszürkébb, legbizonytalanabb alak.

Illy Gusztáv tábornok a negyedik a kommunista befolyás alá

került magyar hadsereg legfőbb irányitói közül, aki szintén az utolsó három évben érkezett az ismeretlenségből uj üstökösként. A Horthy-hadsereg pedigré-hiba miatt kiselejtezte. 1945-ig egy fővárosi csokoládégyár tisztviselője volt. Azonnal szolgálattételre jelentkezett a debreceni kormánynál. A hadügyminisztérium személyzeti osztályának lett a vezetője. Vállalta a honvédség megtisztítását a reakciós elemektől Mindmáig nem pihent meg kezében a piros ceruza. Illy tábornok később a kiképzési csoport élére • került |és tevékenységével igyekezett a kommunisták bizalmát megszolgálni. Mindamellett, hogy csatlakozott az egyedül üdvözítő Kommunista Párthoz, a jövőbelátó benfentesek, sem neki, sem Sólyomnak nem jósolnak tartós sikert. Mindketten a régi iskola neveltjei, szeretik a pompát és személyes magatartásuk ellenkezik a népi demokráciák partizanharcokban edzett tábornokainak eszményképével.

A józan szemlélő e rövid seregszemle után is megsejtheti, hogy hová vezet az uj magyar népi demokrácia útja. “Irány kelet felél” S ha a nyakas magyar nép nem akarná megérteni, majd megtanítják az uj idők dalaira. A szerepeket jól kiosztották. A rendőrségnél diktál a magyar Kommunista Párt, az uj hadseregnél pedig orosz katonai befolyás érvényesül. A fejlődés iránya egyenes, vonala töretlen, mert kommunista kézbe került az uj magyar rendőrség és hadsereg.

segítség a németországi ínséges

Látogatás Vincent Brosnan atya, a volt tábori káplánnál, a National Catholic Welfare Conference new yorki irodája németországi osztályában (Empire State Building, Floor 85.)

A jó Brosnan atya barátságos kéznyujtással fogadott amikor beléptem hozzája a N. C. W. C.-nek az Empire State Buildingben levő irodájában. Minden elfoglaltsága dacára élénken emlékezett látogatásomra, amikor hasonló ügyben felkerestem múlt őszszel.

Mielőtt voltakép előadhattam volna látogatásom okát, jóságos örömtől sugárzó arccal közölte velem, hogy 1500 dollár értékű vitamindus csecsemő-táplálékot küldtek át a Németországban nyomói gó magyarok számára. Ebből 70 százalékot az amerikai zónába irányítottak főt. dr. Rozsályi Ferenc, a (müncheni katolikus magyar Caritas elnöke) kezéhez. 15 százalékot az angol zónába dr. Kertész Tamáshoz és 15 százalékot a francia zónába dr. Nyika Bélához, hogy: osszák ki az Ínséges magyar menekült családok között valláskülömbségre való tekintet nélkül.

Ugyancsak közölte velem Brosnan atya, hogy 50,000 font élelmiszer, amelyet a Hálaadás Napján országosan lefolyt gyűjtés alkalmával gyűjtöttek össze a templomokban nagytömegű ruhával és cipővel együtt január 20-án indult el hajóval főt. Erwin Klaus, a N. C W. C. hadisegély alapja megbízottjának utján főt. dr. Rozsályi címére.

Mint annyiszor, most is a National Catholic Welfare Conference, amelynek hadisegély alapja élén Msgr. Edward E. Swanstrom prelátus áll, jár elől a segítségben. "Az emberi nyomor és Ínség enyhítésére mindig résen áll és örömmel jelentem, hogy az első érdemleges és jelentős szállítmányok megtörténtek az önhibájukon kívül Németországban szenvedő, nyomorgó menekültek számára. Valóban boldogság, hogy e jó hirt továbbadhatom magyar honfitársaimnak, akik elhagyatottságukban is megérzik belőle, hogy Amerikából megértő szív dobog feléjük, olyan amely tettekkel bizonyítja mélyi és igaz emberi érzületét. Közölhetem azt is, hogy benyomásom szerint most, hogy a hontalanokat a National Catholic Welfare ez első szállítmányokkal beiktatta gondoskodásé körébe, biztosra vehető a segélyküldemények folytatódása.

Amerikai magyar testvérek az Egyesült Államokban! Adjatok egész szívvel a püspökök gyűjtőakciójához, amely most van folyamatban és járuljatok hozzá mindig valahányszor a National Catholic Welfare Conference gyűjtést rendez az európai és kínai ínségesek megsegitésére.

The author is an American who is a true friend not only of the peoples living within the year-of-1910-boundary of Austria and Hungary but also of the great British people, the Russian people and all peoples of good will who are but victims of incapable leadership when they are made enemies of each other and, on the other hand, beneficiaries of wise and effective leadership, which knows how to fight harder for maintaining peace than for making war.

The author has observed the monstrous break-up of Austria and Hungary, although they never have menaced and never could menace the British Life Line or Empire. The deliberate, wanton destruction of a long established, liberal, democratic, progressive: politically, economically and culturally well-developed community of 56 million people has »hocked the author into devoting his lifetime to make an exhaustive study for all peoples on the globe to know what to do to stop the madmen-made suicide of mankind. If humanity cannot make good to last on this planet it surely will not get another chance on another planet.

Screaming headlines and column titles such as: "BENES; PATRIOT OR TRAITOR": “BENES ACCEPTS RED REGIME": “THE DEATH OF A DEMOCRACY"; “CZECH POLICE SMASH HUGE STUDENT RALLY"; "KEEP OUT BIG THREE TOLD BY CZECH": “EUROPE’S LIBERTY MENAGED BY CZECH REDS"; “U. S. FOREIGN POLICY TAKES A LICKING," and a great variety of their kind, currently appearing in the newspapers and magazines of U. S. A. are most thought-provoking answers to the likewise screaming titles apoearing 30 years ago like “THE COMPLETE ELIMINATION OF ' THE AUSTRIAN AND HUNGARIAN MONARCHY FROM THE MAP OF EUROPE'' (Seton-Watson); "DESTROY AUSTRIA HUNGARY" (B.enes); "CUT OFF ALL HEADS OF THE HYDRA" (Benes) in which pamphlet the hydra symbolized Austria and Hungary, and,, by his own admission, it made the big impression on Lloyd George.

In spite of the gigantic rate of effort and treasure, however, it took Father Time only 30 years to observe Benes’ people "liberated” by the Czech communist puppets of Moscow, Before 1918, as a result of strategic and political reasons, the Czechs were the most pampered and economically the most favored citizens of Austria. This Benes’ sanctioned “liberation” by Moscow communist dictatorial methods will shock the unfortunate Czech people who before World War I. were led by their self-interested political agitators, including Benes,, to believe that the Czechs, as the most aggressively-minded Slavs, or "the Prussians of Slavdom", will become the leaders of Slavdom, including Russia. “When Benes speaks, Europe listens,” was the highsounding propaganda line published in many American newspapers.

But this "liberation” by Moscow puppets will not be less shocking to the American taxpayers who were made to finance also this most fantastic foreign policy venture based on the most reckless disregard of all those political, strategical, economic and moral factors which in our country are held, and defended with everything we have, as inviolable and most vital to our national life. These factors are territorial, political and economic unity. However,, the Godfatherhood of Czechslovakia is not the only precedent by which a foreign office and was launched by a few men. secretly, in a certain foreign office and then passed on to United States for financing the high-cost venture and, eventually, for going to war in foreign lands in order to carry out the catastrophic blunder and thus the United States to suffer the consequences of a deadly idea sold under high sounding labels to us by some hard-hating, vindictive madman. Right now, in 1948, we have several such ventures transferred to us to hold the bloody bag.

Prime Minister Attlee labeled Russian Communism as "inverted czarism" and declared that ‘‘Russia has turned its back to civilization.” Lord Pakenham, government spokesman in the house of lords, described the communist coup in Czechoslovakia as "Hitlerite technique and utterly damnable m every way.”

Much of this sort of belated indignation and condemnation goes on now in London while entirely ignoring the seven centuries old fact that the 6 million Czechs — if there are even that many "pure Slay” Czechs who only are allowed by Benes to have full rights of citizenship, in the light of many Gottwalds, Fierlingers, Mejers, Lausmans who, obviously, are not of "pure Slav" but of German origin — within the framework of the Austrian and Hungarian Monarchy have enjoyed for seven centuries the greatest measure of liberty, security, prosperity and REAL.not conspiracy-coined. DEMOCRACY in their whole national existence. The Czechs have enjoyed such true kind of democracy as the 56 million “self-determined” people of Austria ánd Hungary had not known after the dismemberment of their common monarchy, after World War I., although that war was fought ostensibly "to make the world safe for democracy.”

Our friends in London are loudly lamenting N O W about the communist aggression claimed to be a "crime against humanity and civilization" and as such punishable by death — and about the unrelenting Moscow grab of the fragments of dismembered Austria and Hungary but they are very silent about the very causative fact of such grabs, namely, that the destruction and fragmentation of the Austrian
