1. No. 155. 33152/8. The Hungarian Chargé d'affaires in Vienna, Mr. Masirevich, to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Gratz. [TRANSLATION] Code telegram No. 63. VIENNA, February 26, 1921. The Austrian Government sent me to-day the photographs of the Italian and Yugoslav demands for reparations which were given to the Austrian delegate for reparations in Berlin by the Ministerium für Wiederaufbau. The Austrian delegate reported the hope of the German Government that these demands, which are only roughly calculated, will be refuted if detailed counter-data concerning at least some sections is available from the Hungarian and Austrian side. The time limit granted to the Germans for their reply is until March 5 but they hope for an extension if we are able to produce data. With reference to the note from the Foreign Ministry, No. 26747/920 of November 15, 1920,

2 I do not feel myself authorized to make known the data mentioned above, part of which are available here, but I may remark that the Austrians are prepared to comply with the German request. I consider it advisable for us to present data in conjunction with the Austrians because a one-sided refusal of the request by Hungary would have a detrimental effect on our dealings with Germany; and to some extent would signify our acquiescence in the justice of the demands. In consideration of the time limit mentioned above, I request instructions by Monday as to whether I may draw up the data at my disposal in agreement with the Austrians and whether I may send it to Berlin.
