Hamberger Judit Résumé A New Chapter or a Turn in the Slovak-Hungarian Relations? The year of 2010 brought about important changes in the Slovak-Hungarian relations, resulting in a significant change of tone. There was a change of government in both countries at that time, and the two right-wing prime ministers (Iveta Radicová and Viktor Orbán) agreed that they would moderate the tone of official bilateral relations compared to the former years. They have also agreed on leaving the matter of discussing and solving sensitive issues between the two countries to the joint commissions established by the Slovakian-Hungarian treaty, signed in 1995. These joint committees had been vegetating earlier, but then they began to work regularly. In 2012, as a result of the early elections, a left-wing government came to power in Slovakia, but the prime ministers of the two countries (Robert Fico and Viktor Orbán) have been going on with the building of moderate-toned bilateral relations with the help of the joint committees. Their intention is to try to solve the sensitive issues between the two countries, based on mutually and collectively available (mainly economic) successes. 78 Külügyi Szemle
