Résumé The undiscovered Bibó: István Bibó, the founder of the discipline of international relations in Hungary The major thesis of the article is that István Bibó should be regarded as the founder of the discipline of International Relations in Hungary. It is further claimed that the three major works by Bibó in the field offer his views on International Relations from the perspectives of the three traditions identified by Martin Wight. His book On the Equilibrium and Peace of Europe, (1986 [1942-44]: 295-603) elaborates his views on International Relations from the perspective of the balance of power tradition. His study on The Meaning of the Development of European Society, (1986/III [1971-72]: 5-123) is an original contribution to the discipline from the perspective of the Rationalist tradition. Finally his book on The Paralysis of International State-Society and the Remedies: A Study of Self-Determination, Concord among the Major Powers and Political Arbitration (1990 [1965-1974]: 283-682) offers an elaboration of the Revolutionary tradition. The three parts of the article seek to support the claim about the significance of István Bibó as a founder of the discipline of International Relations demonstrating his contribution with respect to each tradition. 2011. nyár 153
