Résumé The European policy of the British coalition government - Same old reservations, new reasons Britain's first coalition government since World War II is facing a new kind of Europe, and at the same time the European Union is facing a new kind of United Kingdom. Political integration, economic governance, sovereignty are in the centre of the debates about the future relations between the UK and the EU. Euroscepticism is still sidelined, but a major rethinking of European policies is currently underway in the UK. As the government stated, "the British coalition Government has pledged to be ,active and activist' in Europe, whilst protecting British interests". The new European Union Act ensures that if there is a new change to the EU Treaties that prescribes the delegation of powers from the UK to the EU, the British government will have to get the people's consent in a national referendum before it can consent to the change. The study analyses the consequences of the new constitutional framework of the UK and examines the current debates on the common foreign and defence policy, on economic governance and on the future of the EU budget. 106 Külügyi Szemle
