Résumé The Development of the Economic Relations of Hungary in the Sub-Saharan Region The Sub-Saharan region of the black continent can again get into Hungarian economic sphere of interest if the decision makers and the entrepreneurs change their approach towards Africa. It is not only the significant pace of the economic development of various Sub-Saharan states, but also the immense market potential and the almost limitless raw material deposits of the continent that justifies an intensive Hungarian business presence. However, the lack of information coupled with that of entrepreneurial openness and initiative do not favor market processes now. At the same time, our political elbow room thanks to our EU-membership, as well as our real foreign political, security, and humanitarian interests makes the intitutional cooperation with the African continent important again. The various aspects of our development policy regarding the Sub-Saharan region is still of utmost importance in the wider context of our foreign relations. Moreover, the multilateral ability to enforce our interests and the revival of our bilateral relations are among the tasks the government has identified as a priority. The Hungarian entrepreneurs working in the Sub-Saharan region are able to operate in an environment which - except for a few cases — shows promising macroeconomic figures. The Hungarian "value added" can be realized in the development of raw materials, in agricultural production, in certain service sectors, and in commerce, but the resources of the international community offer great opportunities for exploiting the so-called new business directions as well. 2008. tél 41
