Resume Résumé Judit Hamberger: The Chances of the Hungarian-Slovak Relations in the Mirror of the Governing Position of the Hungarian Coalitions' Party (MKP) The study discusses how the MKP's participation in the Slovak government has helped the Hungarian foreign policy since the end of 1998 and, on the other hand, how the Hungarian foreign policy has made the MKP's position easier or more difficult. This situation results in a slow and fragile (positive) change in the general and deeper (negative) characteristics and trends of the Hungarian-Slovak relations. It makes the improvement of the social atmosphere possible, more the so because the relations depend on the governments to a large extent. The MKP was a guarantee of Slovak democracy and governmental political stability in the past few years. It helped Slovakia's acceptance in the Western integrationist organizations with this behavior. Thus, it has rendered substantial service not only to the Slovak sociaety and politics, but also to the Hungarian foreign policy. The achievements and the failures of the MKP show that there is no real alternative for the Hungarian minority living in Slovakia to take part in the political process and to shape its own fate besides being members in the government. The opportunities of the Hungarian foreign policy concerning the improvement and influencing of the position of the Hungarian minority in Slovakia are rather limited both on a bilateral and on a multilateral basis. The rhetorics and concrete steps of the Hungarian left and right do influence the general position of the Hungarians in Slovakia and the Slovak view of their role in the government as well. Judit Hamberger: Die Chancen des ungarisch-slowakischen Verhältnisses im Spiegel der Situation der Partei der Ungarischen Koalition in der Regierung Die Studie vermittelt einen Überblick darüber, wie die Beteiligung der Partei der Ungarischen Koalition in der slowakischen Regierung seit Ende 1998 der ungarischen Außenpolitik hilft, beziehungsweise umgekehrt, wie die ungarische Außenpolitik der Situation der slowakischen Partei der Ungarischen Koalition Partei hilft, bzw. sie erschwert. Diese Situation hat in den allgemeinen tieferen (negativen) Besonderheiten und im Trend des slowakisch-ungarischen Verhältnisses einen langsamen, zerbrechlichen (positiven) Wandel zur Folge. Sie ermöglicht die Verbesserung der sozialen Atmosphäre des Verhältnisses, um so mehr, weil dieses Verhältnis stark von der existierenden Regierung abhängt. Die Partei der Ungarischen Koalition war in den vergangenen Jahren ein Garant der demokratischen und regierungspolitischen Stabilität in der Slowakei.
