My dear Lord Halifax, I thank you very much for your letter of October 2nd in which you were good enough to inform me of the Münich agreement, expressing the hope that the Hungarian and Czechoslovak Governments will achieve, within the specified time, a peaceful settlement of the question of the Hungarian population in Czechoslovakia. In reply, I have the honour to point out, that my Government, always deeply attached to peaceful ways, has already approached the Prague Government with a view to enter upon negotiations based on the Miinich agreement, in order to arrive by mutual consent to a quick settlement of the issue which would serve the interest not only of the two countries, but also of European peace in general. Prompted by this spirit, the Hungarian Government greatly appreciates the interest shown by Great Britain in this matter and would feel extremely grateful, if, in conformity with your assurances, that the claim of the Hungarian Government would receive consideration at the appropriate moment, His Majesty's Government would urgently use their friendly influence in Prague, in order to promote the success ofthe above negotiations.
