And it mattered little, or not at all, whether or not these homes were humble, or poverty stricken; the environment was such that mental and moral giants developed in them. What has happened to our communities, to our homes and to our sense of values in our present day? Some will say that times have changed. This is a false assertion. If anything has changed, it is our moral, spiritual and individual concept of life in general. Time goes on and on, but we come and go, never again to return. And we delude ourselves in our thinking that what was right and honorable in Lincoln's day is no longer our concern. .We are looking for explanations rather than for the eternally true principles to follow such as: honesty, brotherliness, truth and faith in God. Homes deteriorate into an aggregation of persons rather than becoming a harmonious entity. Some of our false prophets, sometimes labeled as "psychiatrists,'' tell us that the child has his right to "self-expression" whereby he or she is following his or her own instincts to do or not to do what the parent advises. Thus it is the delusion of "being modem." And instead of being trained, children are imposing their un­­heir elders. The teenager demands a car, firearms for sport and other needless things which tend to divert the young mind from the natural interests such as study and improving intellect and character, to Hazardous ventures, sometimes resulting in Tagedy. Some of these satisfied craving of children result in crimes. When the parent is called to the Police Station where he boy is held on a charge 0f murder with a weapon or having caused a serious accident with his car, both parent and child face each other with a feeling of guilt at such moment, reflecting on past mutual failures. — Delinquency m such instances was nurtured unwittingly by parents who are convinced that they love" their children. They fail to realize that love must bel based on a higher ground them giving in" to children ai all times. Unless parental love ecognizes responsibility aGtfte same time, it Ls not love at controlled emotions upon parents, thus actually trying to train dl but rat1-1 er the contributing cause of delinquency. One of the emswers seems to be to hold parents responsible :or the sins of their children. Only thus will we behold the ■awn of the day when teen-age hoodlums will disappear from me American scene. Our school system should inaugurate a real progressive way of educating the youth to become law­­abiding, hard working and respected citizens of their com­munity even as their forefathers are known to have been in their days.
