A 88 éves Elizabeth King elmondta, hogy heten voltak testvérek és még négyen élnek. A szüleitől tanult magyarul, hol angolul, hol magyarul beszélgettek. Az ünnepségen magyar énekek következtek, vidáman, bár meglehetősen hamisan, énekelték a magyar énekeket, míg a történész Victoria Mocsary próbálta diktálni az ütemet. Sue Martin a Kulturális Egyesület előző elnöke magyar ruhájában vidám cajun zenét pengetett, félórával előtte még csárdást járt. Majd magyar tánccal körbejártak. Cajun, magyar és amerikai kultúra keveredett vidám egyvelegben. A hivatalos köszöntőt James Kint, az ez idei elnök mondta, az ünnepi beszédet pedig Dr. Gergátz István, a New Orleans-i tiszteletbeli konzul tartotta. Végezetül egy amerikai dal: "God bless America, my home, sweet home" fejezte be az ünnepséget. Ezeknek az embereknek Amerika a huszadik század viharaitól mentes, boldog életet adott. Egészséges, nyugodt öregséget és hosszú életet kaptak az Új Világtól. Nyugati Hírlevél New Orleans, Július 9. KÖZÖSSÉGÜNK EL A REMÉNYSÉG BAL REMENYE are a wonderful tradition that should carry on for future generations. During that tábor we decided to launch a new ball, one that would use the enthusiasm of the younger generation, but at the same time pay tribute to the traditions and struggles of our parents' generation. It wasn't difficult to get many of our family, friends and acquaintances involved and before we knew it we had a committee and the first annual Reménység Bál came to pass on February 10th, 1995. The ball was a success from the beginning until 2000, it's last year. But the success was always hard-won and the committee, which remained essentially intact over the course of five years, had gotten tired and slightly frustrated by the overwhelming stress involved in creating that success each year. We decided to take a break. We wanted to see how much you all would miss it. We have been overjoyed and touched that we have received countless inquiries as to why there was no ball this year. You have shown us your appreciation of our hard work through your encouragement and your requests that we keep the flame alive. Because of all that, and the fact that we are very sentimental about our ball and we'd like to see if flourish and prosper, I am pleased to announce that next year's ball will be held on February 16th at the Hanover Marriott in Whippany, New Jersey. Please mark your calendars. Next year will be an indication to those of us organizing the ball as to what the level of interest is in keeping it alive. Ilona and I still believe in this ball, as does every member of our hard-working committee, but we can't do it alone. We need your contributions and your participation. However, I am happy to inform you all that the organizing committee is gathering forces for the Reménység Bál 2002. The Reménység Bál has its seeds in a discussion during Itt-Ott tábor at Lake Hope between Ilona Somogyi and myself regarding the sadness we felt about the passing of Hungarian Balls.
