Ameritech, the Chicagobased telecommunications company with a strong presence in Hungary and a commitment to improving international communications, has generously provided grants to the Coalition in support of the goals of the Internship Program. Since its inception, the White House internship program has enabled the Coalition to screen, nominate and finance the expenses of 11 young talented college seniors or senior candidates. The White House Internship by Ameritech is an excellent vehicle for motivated young men and women to further their interest in public service, community relations and international relations from the vantage point of the executive branch of government by working full time, for a semester, at various offices of the White House. As part of this unpaid internship program, participants are also asked to complete a project for the Hungarian American Coalition. Applications are now being accepted for the 1998 Fall and Spring White House Internship sessions. Candidates should be college sophomores or older, active participants in the Hungarian community, and have an interest in public service. Due to the special grant made by Ameritech to underwrite this program, the Coalition provides a monthly stipend for living expenses to the candidates selected for either White House internship session. If you are interested, please call Kláry Hefty at the Washington Office at (202) 296-9505. Remember that the Coalition offices should receive your applications at least one month before the due date at The White House in order to be considered for financial support. Applications are due by June 1,1998 for the Fall Session (Early Decision) and July 1 for all other applications (Early Decisions are given priority in placements), and November 1,1998 for the Spring Session at the White House. The Fall Session is September 2 through December 23, 1998. Spring Session is January 8 through May 8, 1999.
