Far be it from me to speak out a "j'accuse" against the Rumanian people. They are kind and hospitable, and I can only pity them. But I think it is distasteful for their government to be rewarded by ours, even tacitly, as long as it persists in its red fascism. I have attached a copy of our summer program to show you the interest that we at Portland State have in Central Europe. Here Rumanians, Hungarians and Germans live together amicably. It is my fervent hope that our Government will act in a manner that will encourage a similar spirit in Transylvania, in the land where these nationalities have for centuries consitiuted a kind of Switzerland of the East, which it is the stated aim of Bucharest to eradicate, Orwellian fashion, even from the history books. Thanking you again for your moral stance, I remain Cordially Chairman, Department pf Foreign Languages LJE:mkh Enclosure 14
