12 HUNGARIAN HERITAGE REVIEW JANUARY 1986 HUNGARIAN-CANADIAN GROUP DONATES BUST OF POET TO U OF T (Left to right) Professor George Bisztray of the Chair of Hungarian Studies at the University of Toronto; Frank Kerekes, Chairman of the Hungarian Independent Mutual Benefit Federation; Professor J. Browne, the Principal of Innis College at the University of Toronto; and Arthur Wilson, the President of the Student’s Society of Innis College unveil the bust of Andre Ady. A bust of Hungarian poet Endre Ady was unveiled in the quadrangle of U of T's Innis College. The bust, which is the work of sculptor Géza Csorba, has been donated to the University by the Hungarian Independent Mutual Benefit Federation. Endre Ady (1877-1919) was a poet, writer and journalist, who also wrote about Hungarian emigration to North America. His countrymen regarded Ady as the epitome of the artist with a sense of social responsibility because of his concern for the rights of the underprivileged. The artist, Géza Csorba (1892-1974), studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest, and was a personal friend of Endre Ady. Csorba received the highest cultural award in Hungary, the Kossuth Prize in 1950, and the titles “Artist Emeritus” and Artist Laureate” in subsequent years.
