HC? Voi XX Spec irr Number 1968 No 2 — 88 (07787) What can the church do, in the new historica.1 and social situation, f*or the stabilization of marriage according to the ethical principles of Christianity? We cannot overlook the gap between the Biblical image of marriage and the actual possibilities to live according to this image0 One might consider a rather unilateral situation ethic, with the abandonment of the Biblical pattern of marriage., One might argue with the futility of the attempt to sot up the classical and conservative criteria of the Bible for the marriage of our days because the new situation calls for new forms in which to make the experience of sexual partnership and life companionship.;, Again, one might consider a rather rigid fundament alistic and pragmatic attitude with a concomitant indifference to the actual needs and problems of modern men in a basically clianged situation and with the explanation that the present problems of marriage are simply the outcome cf the corruption cf the world, something the church has nothing to do with. Hence marrxago is either in conformity with what the Bible cadis marriage or it is not marriage0 With duo regard to what the Bible says about marriage and also fur the facts and possibilities of the present, we try to make our approach to the facts from the side of the truth revealed, that is, we try to make a truly Biblical approach to the present situation. We believe that Christian ethic must be conversant with the findings of modern sociology; otherwise it becomes an empty,, doctrinaire and abstract system of ideas. But it is also true that sociology, too, must be conversant with the position of ethics in order to be able to supply the truth that is needed to preserve lifc0 Christian ethic based n the Bible maintains in our days also tint what God has joined together must be kept together and to this end God gives his help., Also today , man is created nan and woman; created by God for one another, God has not pronounced a condemnatory judgment over marriage; He continues to uphold this institution of His creative will for the sake of man, Christian ethic based can the Bible continues to mintain that God's Gospel of repentance and forgiveness stands ready even today to heal and regenerate broken marriages. The commandment af love is valid even in our days in all human relations, and-, above all? in the married union in which man and woman are closest to one another in fulfilling the will of the Creator, Also the modern marriage., the marriage of our time, is the gift of the Father, our Creator, cf Jesus Christ who gives us the forgiveness cf our sins and of the Holy Spirit who inspires love in our- hearts- Our last question isr what cru the Church do for the stability cf such an institution created,, affirmed and maintained by God?
