I 1 No 8* -8-relations towards each other, for children know no social walls of partitions. Following their natural instinct they live in society without classes, where no racial or religious prejudice prevail. A famous poet, a coloured man wrote it, that the first sorrow broke into his life when in the street a white boy was stretching his tongue at him. Then he could feel that pang, for which neither God nor he was responsible, but solely those who planted that racial hatred into that scoffing child. Let us be like children in - joy Let us sec, the only time a child is not joyful is* when no or she is ill. But even then it is not hard to make it smilei Give a toy or a picturebook to a child, it will look at you with a grateful smile, no matter that the doll is maimed, or the teddy bear Ins broken legs. It does not take the child much to see complete that half, arm, and the leg of the toddy bear as a whole. Let us be like children also in - -peacefulness More than once have I seen faces of children still wet with tears shed at the wounds caused to each other, but the lips already opened to smile and the hands reached for each other again, it is no mere phrase that the future belongs to the man of peace, who believes., and lives the truth that true life is only in God and only in Him is he save from the evil. Children like to look up to us grown-ups. Likewise, let us regard others bettor than ourselves rather than worse, like the apostle advises us to do. The ardent desire of a child is to bo bigger. Let the longing for spiritual growth dwell in our hearts. Let a new man appear on the scene of this earth in this century, a man who is indwelled by the life-giving germ of childlike purity. But to that end the heart of man must bo changed. Let in each of us sound the heart of a child. That is when the words of a Christian can be so beautiful: as if God Himself would be speaking. Into that handful of dust, we are made of, it is the spirit of a child that can breath into it the Spirit of Christ, received firsthand out of the Well of Life.
