Ko 5.-7- May 26» 1949 c/ In the compratively much smaller Freo Churches,such as the Baptists,the Methodists,and the Assemblies oi Brethren, especially the latter displays a very lively and serious Jewish missionary activity.Almost one third of their congregation in Budapest consists of believing Jewish Christians." d/ The Jewish Christian members of the different Churches grow always deeper into the life of their own respective Churches and congregations.There is no effort and no sign whatsoever t© establish any special Jewish Christian Church.At the same time, however,in the Hungarian branch of the International Hebrew Christian A lliance a regular and close co-operation is maintained between the Jewish Christians in the different Churches. III. THE MISSIONARY STATIONS IN HUHGABY The number of Jews in Hungary is supposed to be at present about 150.000, and that of the Jewish Christians is estimated for 30,000. But there are no exact dates.About 40$ of the Jewish Christians nay bo Protestants. Besides the above mentioned Churches the missionary woxfe is carried on also by the following missionary stations: 1. The "Good Shepherd" Foundation of the Protestant Churches of Hungary,which is the common organ of the Reformed and Lutheran Churches for the support cf the Jewish missionary activities and for the social and charity work of the two Churches.Practically this Foundation make the social and charity work of all the Pro­testant Hebrew Christians,thus also of the Jewish Christians,vhc are members of the Free Churches.The "Good Shepherd" also main­tains with the help pf the I.H.C.A. a common Protestant orphanage for Jewish Christian boys. 2. The Budapest Station of the Scottish Mission,which during her existence of the past 107 years,earned unique merits in having launched and fertilized the Jewish missionary work in Hungary. Since last year,the Reverend J.Spence,Scotch minister and former missionary in Palestine,has been the head pastor of the Scotch Mission. 3. The Norwegian Mission,which is gradually building up an increasing co-operation not merely with the Lutheran Churoh in Hungary,but serves also with great effect on the Lutheran theo­logical Faculty. The Norwegian Mission in Budapest has been led since the death of his well-known predecessor* Gisle Johnson by the Norwegian pastor Bernhard Seland.He is assisted in his work by Miss Jacobsen,who also has a theological degree. On the second Tuesday of every month all the workers en­gaged in Jewish missionary work used to meet for a common Prayer meeting in Budapest»reporting to each other of the fruit" of ~ their work, of difficulties and try to carry each other’s burdens. xxx
