"Tfo-5. -4- May 2b', 19 49 REC OB'S1RUC1ION SUBSIDY 10 IKS LUIKBRAB CHURCH The Minister of Education and Religious Affairs- JarfonaefL, the chief superintendent of the Lutheran Church that the Sup­remo Economic Council auhtorized .an additional credit grant of 750*000 forints for the repair of Lutheran churches and rectories. The Minister set the condition that the reconstruc­tion subsidies may be spent only on repair and may not be wasted. This grant will bo distributed first of all among parishes willing to supplement subsidies from their own budgets so that all the more buildings may be completely reconstructed and all the work already began, be finished. This extra grant does not involve any reduction in the regular annual appropriations by the State,which are included in the national budget,According to this year’s budget, the State allotted 41.211*000 forints for the personal and material expenses of the- Catholic Church,and 37.658.000 forints for the personal and material expenses of non-Catholic Churches. Prom this latter sum,the Lutheran Church will receive,in proportion to the murnber of its members ^nor© million forints .According t'O recent statistics,after the land reform 12*550 holds /l hold=, 572 hectares/ of land were left in the possession of the Luthe­ran Church and an additional 742 holds wore granted. BET/ BAPTIST CHURCH CONSECRATED On May 9th in the presence of over one-thousand believers, the new Baptist Church of Nagyvarsány was consecrated.Dr.Imre Somogyi, president of the Baptist Union, held the inaugural address. Several Reformed ministers spoke at the celebration, which was attended by representatives of local authorities also. FOREIGN GUESTS IN HUNGARY The Scotch Professor G. D. Henderson was accorded an honorary degree and professorship by the School of Reformed Theology in Budapest. In his inaugural address, the new hono­rary professor spoke about Scotch teachings on the duties of pastors. At the invitation of the Budapest Young -Mon Christian Association, the Reverend Kwang Tsun Ting,Oriental secretary of the Young Men Christian Association, spent several days in Hungary. He held numerous lectures for various youth orga­nisations and preached at some university services.
