The Coalition’s Internship grant covers living expenses and local transportation expenses in the Washington, DC area for the duration of the internship. Dr. Elemer and Eva Kiss Scholarship Fund The Scholarship Fund was established in 1997 for the purpose of providing partial annual scholarships to students to pursue studies at U.S. colleges and universities. Applicants must be citizens of Hungary, or members of an ethnic Hungarian community in Slovakia, Romania, Voivodina-Serbia or Ukraine; must have gained admission as a full-time student to a US college or university; in addition to other requirements. The average Coalition Scholarship grant is $1,000 per year. For more information, please visit: http://hacusa.org University of Pécs Remarks by Professor Róbert Gábriel, Rector Pécs is located in the southern part of Hungary, close to the Croatian border. The University of Pécs is located in a beautiful city with a Mediterranean climate. The university was founded in 1367 - it is one of the oldest universities in Europe. It was established by the Anjou king Louis the Great. The number of students today is 34,000 making it the largest university in Hungary. There are 1,400 foreign students and 2,300 lecturers. The university has a traditional structure of European universities with 10 faculties, subdivided into departments. It has a 24-year experience in offering a degree program for international students in the English language. Among its more significant international activities are the following: 77 bilateral agreements in 27 countries worldwide for student exchange, teacher exchange, common research projects; organizing large international events and conferences; participating in Joint-Degree projects. 6 - June 2008 - Hungarian American Coalition The university has the following agreements with US universities and institutions: Ohio University, University of Arizona, San Diego State University, State University of New York at Oswego, Florida State University, Central Washington University, Texas Tech University, University of Montana, Nazareth College. It also collaborates with US institutions, such as the Fulbright Commission and the Institute of International Education. The university offers co-operation for US universities and institutions in the following fields: 1. Education. We have 1,400 international students in the 2007/2008 academic year, but only 25 students from the US. We would be happy to receive more US students. We can offer our International Programs which are held in English: Degree programs, PhD programs, Study Abroad programs, Summer schools 2. Research. Basic and applied research is conducted in the following main disciplines: Life sciences and natural sciences, Social sciences, Engineering, Humanities. In the EU framework we pursue research in: environmental laser technology, biotechnology, and pharmaceutics. We have 21 doctoral degree programs. 3. Mobility: Student exchange with US partner universities (San Diego State University - 10 exchange students per year; University of Arizona - Study Abroad collaboration; SUNY Oswego - 5 exchange students per year; Central Washington University), teacher exchange, scholarship. 4. The aims and goals of the society were to provide a social life for the area Hungarians and financially assist those coalminers of eastern Pennsylvania who became sick or disabled.
