9V 32 Hírünk a Viláj OUR REPUTATION IN THE WORLD The present issue is dedicated to the memory of the great Hungarian composer, Béla Bartók, who died ten years ago, on September 26, 1945. In his article» Joseph Szigeti recalls his concerts with Bartók and emphasizes the revolutionary changes in the appreciation of Bartók’s music during the ten years which have passed since his death. Under the title, “Béla Bartók, the Man“, interesting parts of the Bartók book by Vilmos Juhász are quoted. The book will soon be published by the OCCIDENTAL PRESS. Of special interest will be Bartók’s criticism of the Soviet composer-farms, \ and the attitude of Shostakovich and Prokofiev who could submit themselves to Communist direction in the field of art, which to Bartók seemed unthinkable. The Bartók memorial concerts in various countries are also reported on. A Roumanian composer, Viorel Cosma, and the great French composer, Francis Poulenc, are quoted. Poulenc calls Bartók “one of the greatest musicians of all times.“ * * 5]« The results of the translation competition, announced by HÍRÜNK A VILÁGBAN last April, are given in the present issue.
